The Bulls fell to 0-2 in the Vegas Summer League yesterday after suffering a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks’ summer squad. The Bulls were outscored in every quarter save the first, falling 87-72 in the end. The thing that strikes me the most after the Bulls’ first two summer games is that Taj Gibson looks like a much better rebounder than I initially thought. Despite his slight frame, Gibson is averaging 10 rebounds through his first two summer league games, grabbing eight yesterday. He did amass 10 personal fouls in less than 25 minutes, though, which is the limit in the summer league.
James Johnson struggled from the field in this one, shooting 4-15 from the floor, but made up for it by getting to the line for 11 free throws. He finished with 16 points and four rebounds, but turned the ball over six times. It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride with Johnson, as one of the knocks on him is his inconsistency, and we’ve already seen it in two summer league games. The Bucks received solid contributions from Brandon Jennings, Joe Alexander, Jodie Meeks and Amir Johnson. Jennings is showing himself to be a true playmaker and could end up being a steal for the Bucks.
