It seems like the idea of the Bulls drafting North Carolina standout Tyler Hansbrough with the 16th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft is a real possibility following the former Tar Heel’s performance and measurements at the NBA combine. “[Hansbrough is] their type of player and I think teams were impressed with his size (6-10 in shoes) at the combine,” wrote NBA draft guru Chad Ford. ”He was also decent in the athletic testing. He had a max 34 inch vertical. Benched 185 pounds 18 times. And his lane agility and sprint drills were a little above average for a big man. In other words, he’s bigger and more athletic than we gave him credit for at UNC.”
Hansbrough’s measurements certainly help his case as an NBA player, and a productive one at that. I’m not so sure, though, how he’d fit in on the Bulls. The Bulls need inside scoring, and Hansbrough doesn’t exactly have a plethora of post moves. He was able to score in college, but he’s bound to struggle at least somewhat against bigger, more athletic NBA-caliber defenders. If he can prove he can score in workouts, though, he’d definitely be worth a look at 16.
