Rose Heats Up to Down OKC

March 19, 2009

Derrick Rose was simply magnificent in the second half of last night’s 103-96 win over the Thunder.  Rose was perfect from the field after halftime, going 10 for 10 from the floor in the final two quarters.  The Chicago native finished with 25 points in the contest, pushing his team to the win over fellow rising superstar Kevin Durant’s squad.  Rose also added six rebounds and three assists in the game.  Durant played well also, scoring 28 points and grabbing six rebounds in the contest, but it wasn’t enough to take down Rose and the Bulls.

Rose was one of five Chicago players to score in double figures.  John Salmons continued his solid play with 20 points, while Ben Gordon chipped in 18, Brad Miller had 14 and Tyrus Thomas added 12.  The Bulls currently stand a game and a half ahead of both the Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  If the Bulls do make the postseason, it’s going to be difficult for voters not to name Rose as the rookie of the year.  Russell Westbrook, O.J. Mayo and Brook Lopez are all in the running as well, but Rose remains the frontrunner in most people’s eyes.
