The Comparisons Begin

November 18, 2008

Derrick Rose is already being compared to Michael Jordan.  Alright, so that statement is a little misleading.  Nobody is suggesting that Derrick is as good or will ever be as good as His Airness, but Rose is the first Bulls rookie to score in double figures in his first ten games as a pro since MJ.  “I didn’t even know that to tell you the truth,” Rose said when reporters altered him of that statistic.  “I’m not even near (Jordan) right now.  Hopefully I will be, but I’m too far way.  For me to do that is nice.  I’m worried about winning right now.”

Winning is not going to come easily tonight as the Bulls head to the Staples Center to face the defending Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers.  Coincidentally, Rose, in the midst of his first Jordan comparisons, will be facing the man who has evoked more comparisons to Michael than any other player, Kobe Bryant.  The Lakers (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season the other night at the hands of the Detroit Pistons.  It’s going to be difficult to defeat this well-rounded and deep Laker team.  The Lakers have so many weapons on offense and the Bulls are surely going to have some difficulty containing L.A.’s potent attack.
