Russian GM Denies Talks With Gordon

September 8, 2008

The general manager of Russian basketball club CSKA Moscow, the team that Bulls restricted free agent Ben Gordon was supposedly in contract talks with, has reportedly denied that he and Gordon have had any contract negotiations.  Gordon and the Bulls have apparently reached stalemate in their negotiations and it seems highly unlikely that the two sides will come to an agreement on a long-term deal to keep Gordon in Chicago.  Gordon is seeking a contract in the same range of the deals handed to Luol Deng and Philadelphia 76ers guard Andre Iguodala this summer, but it seems most NBA GMs deem that much too pricey for the undersized shooting guard.

Gordon doesn’t appear to have much for options.  If he wants to play professional basketball, it looks like it will have to be for the Bulls, amidst their crowded backcourt.  Gordon is coming off a season in which he took a step back, but he feels that he was the best player the Bulls’ roster and wants to be compensated as such.  The Bulls have given that distinction to Deng, though, and have seated he and rookie point guard Derrick Rose as the cornerstones of the franchise.  There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to go from here for Gordon.
