New Chicago Bulls head coach Vinnie Del Negro is inheriting a roster with loaded with young players, young players with a lot of talent. For many NBA youths, it takes a number of years to make the transition from college to the pros, and some can’t quite handle it. John Paxson recently touted Del Negro for his communication skills and leadership ability, something especially important when coaching and developing younger guys. Last season the Baby Bulls seemed to quit on then head coach Scott Skiles, and it may have been due to Skiles well-documented dictator-like coaching style. Skiles had the tendency to rub players the wrong way, even veterans like former Bulls center Ben Wallace who had a public feud with Skiles over whether he could wear a headband during games.
I think Del Negro is a better fit for the team. Many of the club’s leaders have been in the league five years or less such as Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon, and the team also has a number of guys drafted in the past 2 years such as Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefolosha. Noah and Thomas have both had documented incidents with Skiles or members of his staff during practices. The Bulls will also be bringing in a high profile rookie with the number one pick in this month’s NBA Draft, assuming they don’t trade the pick. I think Del Negro’s aforementioned ability to communicate and his willingness to spend time with his players in order to relate to them will better suit this youthful roster than the tough love Skiles dished out.

Now that the Bulls finally have a head coach in place, they can start to focus on another major decision the team has to make, who they will select with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. The Bulls defied the odds in the NBA Draft Lottery by winning the top selection in this year’s draft despite having less than a two percent chance to do so. The Bulls, just one year removed from making the playoffs with many of the same players currently on the roster, should have a good shot at a postseason return with the addition of whoever they deem to be the best player in the collegiate ranks.
The decision will likely come down to two players, Memphis point guard and Chicago native Derrick Rose and Kansas State forward Michael Beasley. Most mock drafts floating around the web seem to favor Rose. Rose is a super-athletic floor general with superstar written all over him. Beasley is a do-it-all forward with strength, length, great range for his size and solid rebounding ability. As far as I’m concerned though, the decision is a no-brainer; take Rose. Though the top picks in the draft are usually bigger guys, Rose is a can’t-miss talent who could be one of the best players in the league in the not too distant future. His professional attitude, great work ethic and humble demeanor go hand in hand with what general manager John Paxson looks for in a player. Beasley has had a lot of questions surrounding his character and motivation. Some scouts fear he’ll never realize his full potential due to his lack of drive. I believe Rose is the safer pick and will eventually be the better player.

It’s official, the Bulls finally have a head coach. Vinny Del Negro was introduced as the new guy in Chicago yesterday ending a long-winded search and much speculation. Del Negro’s most recent position in the NBA was that of assistant general manager for the Phoenix Suns. He has no coaching experience but played 13 seasons in the league, mostly for the San Antonio Spurs.
I think Del Negro is walking into a great situation in Chicago. The roster is filled with young players, always a good fit for a first year coach. The Bulls also defied the odds in May by winning the first pick in the draft in the NBA Draft Lottery despite having less than a two percent chance of doing so. The Bulls have their pick of the college litter and are likely to select Memphis point guard and Chicago native Derrick Rose, a true blue chip prospect. A roster of young talent and a chance to draft an all-world point guard prospect sounds like a first-time coach’s dream, but it gets better. The Bulls are just one year removed from three straight postseason appearances. Last season, several of the team’s core of young players admitted to being rattled by hearing their names being thrown around in trade rumors involving L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant. With that fiasco behind them, there’s no reason to think the Bulls can’t return to postseason form.

Well, it looks like we have a final choice for coach of the Chicago Bulls: Vinny Del Negro, assistant general manager to the Phoenix Suns. Del Negro is expected to be presented to the public later today, which is when chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and general manager John Paxson will announce the terms of his contract as well. According to a National Post story about the whole ordeal, the Chicago Tribune has already reported that it’s a two-year deal worth $2 million annually, and a team option for a third year.
Del Negro has no coaching experience, an important fact to note. Still, Reinsdorf and Paxson apparently see enough in him to be comfortable bringing him aboard as the new coach. We’ll see how this pans out in the near future, as Del Negro’s coaching style becomes tested in the crucible of each game.
Chicago Bulls fans are all well ready to see this hunt come to a close. Finally, it seems the time is at hand. More importantly, they have the opportunity to be prepared and get sports tickets ahead of time. They can find all the Chicago Bulls tickets they need at Stubhub.com.
Picking a coach for the Chicago Bulls is somewhat like spinning a wheel of fortune. Only when you land on a good slice of the wheel, sometimes it jumps up and run away.
So let’s hope for the best and keep both fingers crossed as the Chicago Bulls announce their latest coach pick: Vinny Del Negro, the assistant coach of the Phoenix Suns. Many, Jerry Reinsdorf and John Paxson love themselves some Suns. Hopefully Del Negro won’t up and leave them after initially seeming interested.
Now, granted, this new pick isn’t confirmed–or rather, it’s confirmed by an anonymous source. And if there’s anything we’ve learned through this ordeal, it’s that anonymous sources aren’t always totally accurate. If they were, Doug Collins would have been standing before a press conference flanked by Reinsdorf and Paxson a long while ago.
In any case, don’t give up hope, Bulls fans. Get Chicago Bulls tickets, or any other sports tickets you’re looking for, at Stubhub.com.
The Chicago Bulls hunt for a new coach has become as drawn-out as the Democratic primaries. In a move that surely stunned all of Chicago, and Bulls fans nationwide, Doug Collins, the one time Chicago Bulls coach who everyone was thrilled to see make an offer to return (everyone was thrilled to see anyone grab at the position at this point) has seen the light and turned his back on the Bulls.
Can anyone coax a professional coach to take this team? Will they continue to treat this job like a leprosy infection? Mike D’Antoni split. Avery Johnson was a no-go. And now we can add Doug Collins to the list of people who thought about it…and then very carefully thought again.
Surely someone will pop up in the next few weeks to excite the speculators again. Reinsdorf and Paxson have been up there in Chicago interviewing people, so hopefully there’s some back-up candidates.

So whatever happened to announcing the new Chicago Bulls coach by mid-week? Doug Collins, the former coach (who coached Michael Jordan in his heyday, by the way) is looking at making a glorious return, and not a second too soon. But when, exactly?
Well, according to a new article by the Chicago Tribune, an announcement will be forthcoming this weekend. Let’s hope chairman Jerry Reinsdorf an general manager John Paxon can hold to that schedule this time.
Collins would be an excellent addition, someone who knows the team very well, knows its history and has been around. He’s a much more apropos choice than Mike D’Antoni, the Phoenix Suns offensive strategist that bolted for the New York Knicks.

It happens to celebrities all the time, largely to movie stars that have become the object of someone’s psychotic affection. Apparently, Michael Jordan has found himself unlucky enough to have attracted a very, very adamant fan who claims Jordan fathered her child.
But Jordan agreed to not one, but TWO paternity tests in the past. Both showed that whoever the father was, it wasn’t Jordan.
Apparently the woman, a Lisa Miceli of Meadville, Pennsylvania, isn’t one to be silenced about this. She spoke out numerous times in court, ultimately being removed several times because of her outbursts. Let’s all hope she finds the father, and that Michael is left well enough alone.
Regardless, while you can’t see Michael on the court anymore, you can see the rest of his team. If you’re looking for sports tickets, head over to Stubhub.com and get some Chicago Bulls tickets.
While Doug Collins is the top choice right now (among the media, at least) as to who the new Chicago Bulls coach will be, there may actually be another Person in the running.
Chuck Person, the assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings, is reportedly set to have a second interview (though the source is anonymous). That puts a major crimp in the thought that Collins was definitely the final pick, as the Bulls were expected to publicly announce the decision sometime mid-week. Well, it’s Wednesday. That’s mid-week. So where is the announcement?
According to the story, a radio report quoted chairman Jerry Reinsdorf as saying he wanted more time to think about the decision. If there’s truth to that, the fans may be waiting a little while longer for the end to this whole guessing game.

With sports commentators and fans now abuzz with the news that Doug Collins is expected to take the privileged post of Chicago Bulls coach, it seems like everyone has an opinion on the subject. That includes Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade, who told the Sun-Times that he expected Collins would be an excellent choice. Stress seemed to hold him back in the past, when he served as Chicago Bulls coach two decades ago, but if he’s coming back, Wade said, he probably understands the balance necessary to be invested in your team but not let it shock your nerves so badly.
“If I was a coach, I’d go crazy, too; I know we drive these coaches crazy,” Wade said.
Thanks some extra support to back up the decision to bring Collins back in, and not even from the within the Bulls! If you’re getting excited about the choice of Collins, you may want to pick up some sports tickets to upcoming games. Get Chicago Bulls tickets at Stubhub.com.
