At long last, it looks like the search for a new Chicago Bulls coach is coming to a close. The Sun-Times is reporting that former coach Doug Collins, who coached the Bulls from 1986 until 1989, when he was fired. Collins is expected to be formally introduced as the new coach at a midweek press conference, so expect another post in the near future.
Seems like its taken forever to get to this point, and despite all the odd choices that Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and general manager John Paxson considered over the past several weeks, they’ve finally decided on someone who was with the Bulls already. Reinsdorf considers Collins a “great basketball mind,” and hopefully he doesn’t get snapped up by a rival team looking for a coach, as the New York Knicks did with Mike D’Antoni.
