So long Johnny “Red” Kerr

May 8, 2008

The Bulls longtime announcer, Johnny “Red” Kerr, is finally retiring according to ChicagoSports.com. Surprise, though: The team is mixing its entire broadcast lineup.

The news about Kerr isn’t too much of a surprise, as the article suggests. Kerr has been serving the team faithfully for years, and is now in his 70s. It’s totally appropriate for him to step down and play grandpa for a while.

But look at the rest of the changes:

“Out are play-by-play voices Wayne Larrivee, who handled Bulls games for WGN-Ch. 9, and Tom Dore, who worked the games for Comcast SportsNet. Neil Funk will move over from the radio side to handle the television call for both outlets.”

That’s a pretty big change. Let’s wish them luck in the future. Anyways, if you want to see the team on the court rather than TV, check out Chicago Bulls tickets, or other sports tickets, at Stubhub.com.
